Professional Health and Healing Services
at Common Ground Wellness Center:
-
Acupressure:
Acupressure practitioners use their hands to release “blockages” of energy flow through the meridians (lines of energy through the body). These major meridians are associated with a specific body organ. Acupressure can also help to release old emotional blocks in the body, which are also known to interrupt the flow of energy in the body.
-
Acupuncture:
A health modality that uses needles to modify or clear out blockages or restrictions in the body's energy system, acupuncture helps to restore a healthy energy flow in the body. Acupuncture stimulates certain points called acupuncture points, which are derived from meridians in the body associated with a specific body organ.
-
Aromatherapy:
Uses essential oils from plants to heal, alleviate pain, and regulate mood. Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts derived from leaves, barks, roots, seed resins, and flowers. Several essential oils may be combined during a session.
-
Biofeedback Training:
Teaches how to consciously change and control the body's vital functions that are normally unconscious, such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure, through information provided by electronic devices.
Electrodes, which look like stickers with wires attached to them, are placed on the client's skin. The client is then instructed to use relaxation, meditation, or visualization to bring about the desired response, whether it is muscle relaxation, lowered heart rate, or lower temperature. The biofeedback device reports progress by a change in the speed of beeps or flashes, or pitch or quality of the tone.
The results of biofeedback are measured in the following ways:skin temperature, electrical conductivity of the skin (called the galvanic skin response), muscle tension, with an electromyograph (EMG), heart rate, with an electrocardiograph (ECG), brain-wave activity, with an electroencephalograph (EEG)
-
Chakra Balancing:
Chakra balancing is based on the ancient Indian belief in a series of seven chakras, or energy centers. Various approaches may be used to "balance" the chakras. Chakra balancing is believed to promote health by maximizing the flow of energy in the body, much as a tune-up enables a car to operate at peak efficiency. -
Counseling:
Personal counseling is a chance to talk over issues that are important to you with an objective person who has professional training in helping people work through current situations and learn about dealing with similar situations in the future. All information shared in a counseling session will be kept confidential.
-
Craniosacral Massage:
A non-intrusive gentle manipulation of the skull and spinal system. There is a rhythmical motion in the cranio-sacral system created by the rise and fall of cerebrospinal fluid. This causes a corresponding movement of the cranial bones; restriction of the rhythmical motion may contribute to illness.
-
Deep Tissue Massage:
This therapy is slow as to allow the therapist to sink into the muscles and is usually more area specific or is mixed with other styles of massage. This therapy uses techniques to restore the connective tissue to its natural state. Deep tissue massage can restore flexibility and functionality to the muscles and remove pain.
-
Energy Work:
Energy work is re-balancing the "human energy field" that exists around each of us, most commonly known as the aura. Energetic wounds show up in our lives as physical ailments, mental illness, and emotional distress, and are communications from our energetic and physical bodies that alert us to what needs attention. Energy work allows us the perspective of looking at ourselves as physical, mental, spiritual and energetic beings, offering us the opportunity to realize our completeness.
