Healthy Habits, Happy Life
You wake up after a good night’s sleep with a love for life and surplus energy to enjoy doing what is most fulfilling and important to you. What if this were the norm?
You come to Common Ground to restore your body to balance. My question is: what about the rest of the week?
You probably already know a few things you want to do, but aren’t doing them at all or at least not consistently.
This is where I see coaching as a game changer — and a natural extension of the wellness work I already do. I often wonder what clients are doing outside of sessions to support themselves. The deeper question I really get curious about is why someone’s not doing the things they say matter to them.
We all live by a set of priorities, from what’s most important to least important. These are fingerprint specific, retina specific and no two peoples are the same. It is very common to discover a wide gap between what we think and say is most important to us and what our life demonstrates.
My approach to coaching draws on more than traditional goal-setting and accountability—what to do and how to do it. It revolves around what one’s life demonstrates (values), as well as embodiment and understanding what gets in the way and how to address this and hidden operating systems.
Clients transform at the level of identity, where they get clear about what they want and spontaneously begin to close the gap from “I can’t do or I should do or I ought to,” to “I can do and I want to and I love to.” Then what emerges is the person who is internally referenced and resourced, grounded in the body and able to navigate change through inspiration rather than protection.
I bring together more than 30 years of working with the body and studying human behavior, along with coaching, embodiment practices, health and healing, values work and other methodologies I’ve studied over many years.
Since we are all living by priority anyway, you can shift your behaviors more intentionally by stacking benefits. Try this:
Pick one thing that would make a difference if you did it consistently, something simple and realistic. Write down on paper how it would benefit you in all areas of your life and what is most important to you right now and in the future, near and far.
Include how it would serve you physically, in your relationships with friends, family and colleagues, mentally, financially, vocationally and spiritually. Answer these 20-30 times or even 250 times! Get creative, go deep. You are rewiring your brain to naturally shift your choices without willpower that, like a gas tank, can be empty at the end of the day.
You may be pleasantly surprised to find yourself making different choices without you even having to think about it.
I understand this journey personally. I taught yoga years ago, yet over time my own movement and health practices became less consistent. I supported my mom over this past decade from independent living to her final four years in memory care. It has been the most kick-ass personal development journey ever. As a result, I am more inspired than ever to share my wisdom and help others cross the river of change, lifting us all with coaching, massage and more.
As part of my ongoing re-commitment to my own vitality, I recently completed a 10 day training in Malta with Simon Borg-Olivier. His work has been part of my life since living in Australia from 1996-2009. I’m now doing his teacher training blending his 5-Dimensional Synergy Flow system with physiotherapy, qigong, and applied anatomy.
If you’re curious about what genuinely matters to you and what’s getting in the way of living that more fully, let’s explore that together.
