HELP CREATE A THRIVING WELLNESS COOPERATIVE

Your support and ownership help our cooperative flourish as we meet your health and relaxation needs.

WHAT IS MY LIABILITY AS AN OWNER?

You are only liable for the amount of money paid towards your share. In the unlikely event the cooperative were to go bankrupt and owed more money than it could pay out, you would only lose the amount of money you’ve paid in. You would not be liable to help pay off the rest of the debt.

WHAT IS OUR COOPERATIVE ABOUT?

Cooperatives put their values at the heart of the business. Our goal is to make values based decisions on a foundation of financial stability, rather than letting profit alone drive our business choices. Our cooperative's specific goals are to bring wellness to our community in an environmentally friendly way.

HOW OUR COOPERATIVE WORKS

Patrons, Staff, and Practitioners compose the three member groups within the CGWC community. Each member buys an individual member share to become a part of the cooperative group. Membership benefits include voting in annual elections as well as an opportunity to run to serve on the Board of Directors. We also offer discount benefits that are updated annually. Patrons, Staff, and Practitioners are included in the vision of the cooperative via board representation and annual elections. Two board members come from each of the three groups to oversee the business via policy governance. Our Executive Director oversees our business operations utilizing democratic principles. We love hearing from our members! Every member gets an invitation to our Annual Membership Meeting where we vote on new board members and enjoy the company of one another. Your membership dues directly support CGWC's presence in the Portland community and our mission to provide health and wellness for our community. Support the Co-op and become a member today!

ORIGIN

Common Ground Wellness Center started over 30 years ago in a house located on NE Everett Street. The nonprofit Common Ground Wellness Center was formed in 1997. The nonprofit rented the House on Everett Street to run our business which consisted of hot tubs, sauna, massage therapists, and other practitioner services. During that time we purchased the Flanders House and shared three backyards. In 2007 we moved out of the Everett House and into our current location on NE 33rd Ave, which is now Common Ground Wellness Cooperative. We became a cooperative in 2010 and we offer a wide range of services including, a 104 degree heated salt water soaking pool, sauna, massage, naturopathic care, cranial sacral, chiropracty, Bowenwork, Reiki, acupuncture, structural integration, counseling, etc.

WHAT WE ARE PROUD OF:

  • Over twenty experienced healers with a longstanding commitment to the heart and soul of CGWC as a 30 year entity.

  • Great reputation: decades of visitors feeling comfortable, safe, relaxed, and respected- and telling us so in reviews.

  • Our Bathhouse Policies: Creating a culture of respect and consideration to model to our larger community.

  • Our Eco-friendly space: Using the most natural cleaners, and pool maintenance systems that are good for people and the environment.
